Introduction to Musical Theater Performance ($80/4 weeks)
Students participating in Introduction to Musical Theater Performance will examine and explore the skills necessary to put on a convincing musical theater performance. Focus in class will be given to vignettes, storytelling, and emotional interpretation of the scenes and music. Students will have basic lessons in some stage skills. (We recommend taking Introduction to Stage Acting, concurrently.) In many cases, students will incorporate stage movement and simple dance into their scenes. Lessons in proper singing technique will be incorporated to improve the quality of the singing voice as it relates to storytelling in a musical setting. Pieces from musicals, popular music, and rock opera will be used as examples throughout.
